ORIADE ISLANDS – A LAND OF HOPE

There are several islands spread across the Atlantic Coast in the Oriade local government council development area. The topography of these areas can make any horticulturist go green in envy; it is a Treasure Island, Nigeria’s own Eldorado. Little wonder tourists all over the world visit these islands without costs. The serene islands boast of beautiful beaches and coconut the denizen of the coastal seas spread elegantly all over the coasts. However, life in these islands is not as beautiful as the islands. No social infrastructure; electricity, pipe borne water, schools, hospitals. There, lifestyle is purely hedonistic, occultic and paganistic. Thank God for men and women He is using to reach out to these people. The church has always been and is purely an instrument of change in the area through the instrumentality of God’s word. The Foursquare Gospel Church has risen to the challenge of riverine evangelism and God has brought forth thirty mission fields in these islands. Eight mi...

SPIRITUAL LEADERSHIP AND AUTHORITY

Image
Spiritual leadership and authority is crucial to God in His purpose and to the administration of His church, but this authority has either been abused or grossly misunderstood by men of unstable minds who have used leadership and authority to exploit God’s people, enlarge their appetite and short-change the purpose of God for His church and the nations. The popular and promotion of celebrity Christianity   and mega-pastors   syndrome is going to erode the New Testament concept of servant leadership taught and spelt out in the New Testament, we would do well to pay attention to these principles today. Spiritual leadership and authority does not necessarily have to do with age, sex, title, status or position but with influence, 1 Tim. 4:12. Leadership has to do with moving God’s people or influencing God’s people towards God given goals for the group. IMPERATIVES FOR SPIRITUAL LEADERSHIP Spiritual leadership is crucial and important because they are executors of His wil...

YOU CAN DO MISSIONS ANYWHERE TODAY

Image
The challenge facing missions today is not where and how to do it. The challenge facing missions today is lack of vision. It is lack of understanding that leads to lack of vision. Many Christians are yet to fully understand and so are unable to have vision. Mission is done in the context of culture. In the Bible, God has grouped people into cultures. People who have the same identity or cultural affinity are called a people or ethnic group. The Bible calls it ‘Nation.’ God’s plan therefore is for the Church to identify these people groups wherever they are, especially those who have not been reached, and then give them the Gospel. It means that these people groups can be in remote areas as well as in cities. This implies also that they can be reached at the same time in remote areas and in cities. Gone are the days where people see mission work as only what is done in an interior village. Globalization and urbanization have changed demographics of the world. Some people groups t...

THE PULPIT ETHICS

The pulpit is the most sacred and exalted place in the church. He who occupies this position stands as the representative of Christ. This is the minister's first line of offense. From this honored and dedicated place, he boldly denounces sin and courageously challenges the devil. From the sacred desk are heard the truths of God which cuts as a two-edged sword, bringing both conviction and contrition to the sinner and the worshiper. Words of life and death flow from this fount. To this vantage point, the penitent looks for the heavenly balm of Gilead. Preachers must be careful not to allow their comportment to undermine the authority of the word of God and bring reproach to the name of Christ . Posture The preacher must have a good posture. He must not stand in a slouched position, leaning over or on the pulpit. He should stand erect, with both feet on the floor. To lean on the pulpit does not impress the congregation that the speaker has any fire and enthusiasm, or that his ...
